The combined aerodynamic drag of the seat post and seat tube accounts for 40% of the total drag of the frame and fork. While studying how humpback whales execute tight maneuvers, researchers observed that the protrusions on the leading edge of the whales' fins contribute significantly to this ability.
During the development of the Bolide F HR 3D, it was determined that these ridges minimize drag by generating streamwise vortices, thereby maintaining airflow behind the peaks.
