Carbon fiber fabrics can be classified in two ways. One method is based on weave density and type: there are classic woven fabrics (e.g., 1K, 3K, 12K) and unidirectional (UD) fabrics, which are not woven.
The other classification criterion is whether the carbon fiber fabric is high-modulus, high-strength, or highly resilient. The former are very stiff and lightweight, while the latter are extremely resilient and more flexible. It is impossible to build a lightweight, stiff frame suitable for high-level racing without predominantly using the former type! Conversely, frame manufacturing could not exist without the latter.

The Wilier Usma SLR is a premium hardtail MTB featuring 29-inch wheels and a frame constructed from HUS-MOD + High Impact Carbon Weave ultra-high-modulus carbon.
Key characteristics include an asymmetric frame design, the BOOST standard, and integrated cable routing. It features a super-stiff BB92 bottom bracket, a tapered head tube, and a 27.2 mm diameter seatpost. The Usma SLR frame accommodates two different thru-axle standards via interchangeable 3D dropouts. The frame weighs just 850 grams. It also incorporates the IFP (Integrated Frame Protector); the head tube angle is 67.75 degrees—offering significantly greater handling stability than ever before—while the chainstay length is a mere 425 mm.
